Why Get a College Degree?

Many students are not sure about going to college, due to various reasons. Here are five we've heard before, and why they don't hold water.

• I can't afford it:  75% of the students get financial support to help pay for college, and most support is based on need which means the less money you have, the more help you might get.
• None of the family member has ever gone to college: Be the first in the family can be difficult. For example, you may have to tell and explain, make them understand to the family the important of college to you. In another way, to be the first is probably to be a source of self-esteem, for you and for your family.
• I don't know what I am interested at: Mingle with different people. Hundreds of college freshmen haven't decided on a career. College is the place where you get the opportunity to learn more about what is happening around the globe. You'll be exposed to a different academic subjects, people, and new outlook.
• College is too difficult and tough for me: Many students think college will be too heavy and hard for them. Don't forget that every colleges offer tutoring and student support. As certain and confident a students seem, no one goes to college with knowing everything—they are also like you, knowing anything. If they did, why would they go?
• I just cannot fit into it: Every college have students from different backgrounds. To get an idea of what to expect, survey colleges with College Search or for better you can also visit in person. Be sure to ask about the aspect of the student body, and if they have clubs and other activities that you're interested in joining.

It Doesn't Have to Be a Four-Year College

If you're not sure about which college, consider attending a community college. Community colleges are public, two-year schools which provide a perfect education, whether you consider an associate's degree, a certificate program, technical training, or plan to continue your studies at a four-year college
